This event is an opportunity to reflect on a year of progress in implementing the Declaration. One of its commitments realised at the London Summit was the launch of the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict. This Protocol is a guide to obtaining evidence for the key elements of sexual violence crimes as a means of overcoming the barriers to their prosecution. The Protocol is now being implemented in various countries and speakers at the event will describe its value to practioners on the ground and our plans for its further use. The event will also highlight what more all governments can do on this critical agenda, by putting in place measures to prevent these acts from occurring, by bringing more perpetrators to justice, by providing better support to survivors and by ensuring that this issue remains at the forefront of global action.
